About YJ

With over 12 years of UX experience, I have led UX/UI design teams from startups to large organisations across multiple industries (Fintech, AI Technology, Consumer Marketing and others). It brings me joy to see a smile in the experiences I have created for the users and helping designers to grow in their career.

In the past, I was trained in the area of Media, Design and Technology. This diverse background enabled me to understand the 'fit' between usability, aesthetics, and technically-savvy solutions. It also drives me to be empathetic towards end-users and cross-collaboration teams.

My leadership style spans across 3 key values: People, Product and Process with People as the key focus. This is how I operate within the design team and cross-functional team by keeping these values in mind.

People

People is key to building great product. Being transparent, genuine and committed in people's growth and work is important for trustful relationships.

Design Team
  • Recognising team members for good work
  • Be honest and genuine in providing performance review feedback
  • Develop high performing designers who will then pass on the skillsets to other team members
Cross-Functional Team
  • Cultivate an environment of trust and accountability with my product counterpart
  • Be empathetic about the project challenges other teams are facing and strive to resolve it together
  • Be receptive and respectful of the feedback from different domain experts

Process

Process drives the efficiency of team collaboration and product releases. I ensure that the team follow the right processes with a common goal in mind.

Design Team
  • Setting aside sufficient design focus time for designers to generate great work
  • Building a collaborative culture whilst designers working on different project
  • Identify process improvements and ensure design quality is upheld
Cross-Functional Team
  • Encourage teams to ideate together and adopt a user-centric approach
  • Driving retrospective sessions after key project milestone for learnings and self-improvements
  • Establish design validation benchmark to ensure design debts are reduced

Product

In order to achieve success of product, I ensure that the teams move with the same understanding of the business goals and product strategy.
