Family LifeAid

With the burden of bills and living expenses, Suria and her three young children often had difficulty making ends meet — they couldn’t afford fresh foods from time to time, and ‘ayam’ (chicken) was a treat. With support from Red Cross’ Family LifeAid, Suria’s family now enjoys nutritious food everyday.

Family LifeAid aims to build social, emotional and financial resilience of vulnerable families in Singapore through a holistic network of programmes, with a strong focus on children.

WHAT WE DO

Our volunteer befrienders not only provide food vouchers for families to put nutritious food on the table, they also provide weekly quality home-based tuition based on a structured curriculum for children aged nine to 12 to provide them with the opportunity to advance in life. Besides that, our volunteers also offer home-based storytelling for children aged four to eight years old to enhance their literacy and confidence in the English language during their formative years.

WHO WE HELP

Singapore Red Cross focuses on supporting those who may have fallen through the cracks of social services such as:

  • Families that require urgent, immediate assistance
  • Skipped-generation families (grandparent-headed households)
  • Single-parent families
  • Working poor families (especially low and lower-middle income)
  • Families with persons with disabilities

HOW WE HELP

Identified households receive food vouchers every month.

Households will benefit from supplementary support, such as storytelling, tutoring of young children and helping the seniors with household chores. This will provide the opportunity for the children to advance in life.

In addition, periodic reviews and assessments are carried out to monitor improvement or change in the family’s conditions, and to ensure that the dire needs of the families are met with our programme.
